23

I'll be turning 23 in two days. I was just listening to a cd from Kendall Payne and she wrote a song called twenty three. I recognise a lot from what she says. Especially the first line... :)

Twenty Three

Twenty three when did we become grown?
I never noticed the seeds of the cynic being sown
Will we starve will the harvest time reap
Freedom or chains hope or disdain for the weak?
Twenty three when did we become safe?
We pray to feel pleasure and hate when we have to feel pain

Let me see your burn let me see your bruise
You look just like me
Let me see where you’re broken in two

We pretend when we find the end of ourselves
Afraid to be real so we say that we’re somebody else
Little ones teach the big to be free
Children are only un-costumed humanity

While we wait here in the dark love lends a spark
But we can’t decide
‘Cause coming back to life is harder than hell
Once you have died

Finally I can see with your eyes
That everyone angry is only just aching inside
Twenty three when the sun sets tonight
There’s always a reason we just cannot leave it behind

Mail addiction

Confession: I'm addicted to mail. Real mail that is. I'm on old fashioned girl.
When I go visit my parents, the first thing I do is check the drawer where they keep the mail to see if there's anything for me. And I haven't been in Ede for a while, the thing I'm most looking forward to is the moment I see a big pile of letters in front of my door (usually the pile is small or non-existent and contains a lot of stuff, but fun letters) When one of my roommates and me enter our building together, I'll always race them to the mailbox to check if anything is in there.
And how happy the moments are when there is real mail for me! I have some great friends who send me wonderful stuff. They really make my day with cute postcards, long letters, little presents or sticker-covered envelops!!!
So... bottom line? SEND ME MAIL!!!!
No, just kidding (though I would love it) It inspires me to send other people real mail; good friends, but also people I don't know that well, or that I don't even know at all.
A few years ago I was writing people who were in prison because of their faith. For some reason I stopped doing that, but recently again I realised that if mail makes me this happy, how much more it can do for someone who's in prison. I was reading about how people would be so encouraged by knowing that Christians all over the world thought about them and how they sometimes would get better treatment in prison because of that.
I really love sending mail, but sometimes I do it, because then the chances of receiving mail will increase... So now I want to pick up the habit again of writing people who might never have the chance to write me back.

Jamie Oliver

I just love to watch cooking shows! Jamie Oliver was just on and he can make everything look so yummie! I also love reading cook books! I have too many on my shelf to ever make all those recipes, but it's so much fun to read them!
When I lived in Amersfoort a few years ago I shared a floor and a kitchen with another guy. We would eat together most of the time. Since we always used my room to have dinner, he would usually do the cooking. I would sit on the counter while he cooked and he would tell me all the stuff he was doing. So it was like a live cooking show! Lots of fun. Now I'm trying to get my current roommates to do this for me too :)
One of my roommates is actually quite into cooking. She tries different recipes for, let's say applepie, and keeps the one that turns out best. Luckily for us we get to try all her experiments. Lekker!!!

Song of the harlot

In the night, the harlot moves across the floor
She turns the handle on the door
A hundred eyes seem to look right through her
Why she's there they're not sure
Behind her love, she falls down to her knees
Without a word, she begins to weep
And her tears, they fall down upon his feet
She smothers them with kisses
And she dries them with her hair

In my life, sorrow has kissed my lonely heart
Fear of man tears me apart
And I try, but many times I've loved the world
So many times I've been the whore
And I cried a million tears, or maybe more
So many times I have been the whore
I will fall down on my knees
And I will sing "I love you"

I will sing "I love you, my love"
And my tears, they fall down upon your feet

Let me smother them with kisses
Let me dry them with my hair
'Cause if I could be anyone at all
Well, if I could be anyone at all
Let me be the whore at your feet
The whore at your feet

American cities

American Cities That Best Fit You:

55% Atlanta
55% Austin
50% Honolulu
50% San Francisco
50% Seattle

Isn't Atlanta the city that Scarlett O'Hara talks about a lot in Gone with the Wind? I have no clue where Austin is... But it's nice to know that those are the cities to go to for me! :)

Habakkuk's prayer

Even though the fig trees have no fruit and no grapes grow on the vines, even though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no grain,
even though the sheep all die and the cattle stalls are empty,
I will still be joyful and glad,
because the Lord God is my savior.
(Hab. 3:17-18)

Do you know how you just sometimes grasp something, whereas before you would just read it, but it wouldn't really mean so much to you.
I have that with these verses. I read them before and I would just see it as a 'good way' of putting stuff in perspective and still praising God. But recently these words really started to live for me. Nothing else matters because the Lord of heaven and earth is my savior! Whatever happens, I'll rejoice because of that! The more I think about it, the more it just blows me away that the Creator of heaven and earth, (and Who obviously is so much more than I can write down in this blog) is also my Savior! Halleluja! :)
